The formation of cellulite is a long and progressive process, result of a chain reaction and divided into 4 stages. Each of these stages is difficult to solve and thus it is very important to take into account client’s individual needs when choosing a programme.

Step 1 Edematous cellulite:

• signs of cellulite are almost invisible, and the changes are observed only in the microscopic examination
• damaged blood vessels do not function properly, and thus the skin is not properly nourished, causing lymph accumulation between tissues. Adipocytes grow and form small clusters
• intracellular edema leads to progressive damage and degradation of collagen and elastin fibers

Step 2 Fiber cellulite:

• signs of cellulite are visible on the skin after pressing it with fingers
• prolonged edema causes changes in the connective tissue around the fat cells. Increasing adipocytes move in the direction of the dermis, thereby preventing normal blood flow
• increased accumulation of lymph in the intercellular space

Step 3 Microlumps:

• cellulite is visible to the naked eye, and hurt when pressed
• deposits of fibers and ground substance of connective tissue start to accumulate around fat lobules causing fibrosis of some parts of the subcutaneous tissue. Circulatory disorders increase.

Step 4 Macrolumps:

• deposition of collagen is converted into hard lumps that put pressure on both capillary vessels and nerve fibers, resulting in more or less severe pain
• this phase is already a considerable pathology, affecting all the components of cellulite, namely: veins, fat cells, and connective tissue
